Generative answer
A generative answer is text produced by an artificial intelligence in response to a question, phrased sentence by sentence rather than served as a list of results. It's the format used by ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and AI Mode.
The difference with a classic search result isn't just a matter of form: a generative answer makes choices. It selects which brands to cite, in what order, with what words — choices a traditional search engine doesn't make the same way.
