Citation frequency

Citation frequency is the proportion of test questions for which an artificial intelligence mentions a given brand in its answer. For example: cited in 6 out of 20 questions asked to ChatGPT about a given industry.

It's the simplest indicator to compare visibility over time or against competitors: a frequency that rises month over month signals the brand is gaining ground in AI answers, even if the exact cause isn't always immediately identifiable.

This indicator varies significantly depending on how questions are phrased and the language tested. A brand can have a high citation frequency in French and near zero in English, if its main market is French-speaking — a point worth watching for any brand selling internationally.
